With the unanimous passing of Senate Bill 156, CA leadership is taking a strong stand and declaring that quality high speed internet is for all.
This bill effectively sets up four billion dollars for the installation of middle mile infrastructure, and two billion dollars for last mile infrastructure (yes, that’s billion, with a “b”).
This will make it possible for Housing Authorities, developers, and construction companies to enhance reliable internet access for affordable housing complexes across California’s underserved communities.
Although the application windows have not yet been announced, they are expected to be very soon, starting in June/July 2022.
Now is the time to learn more about this initiative, get everything prepared for when that application window is announced, and increase your chances to implement 100% funded last mile infrastructure projects.
At Innovative IT, our goal is to provide connectivity to people. In the past 3 years we have been working a lot on TCAC projects. TCAC is a program through which the state of California incentivizes affordable housing developers to include amenities for their residents. Our team has implemented Internet infrastructure at a wide range of complexes in compliance with this program. But, just having the ability to connect to the Internet is not enough. Residents also need devices to use, and the resources to learn how to do it.
In the last few months our team has been working on several projects installing security camera systems. Many organizations are replacing their antiquated camera systems for new IP-based systems. Compared to older models of cameras that were coaxial based (connected directly with a coaxial cable), newer cameras are smarter; they are like mini computers. more
Back in 2014, TekTegrity started looking at Innovative IT and exploring the idea of acquiring it. At the beginning of 2015 we did. At the time there was this little splintered division of Innovative IT (the Resident Internet Division) that did affordable housing work with developers, which was really interesting to me. I had been talking with the partners for years about this: I wanted to manage people’s connectivity to the Internet.
I saw an opportunity here for us to be able to work with cool tech but also contribute to a common good. This division was promising and I wanted to see where we could go with these affordable housing programs.
